The “Falcons of Théding” present: the “common starling of Théding“!

Since 2023, four openings have been created under the roof to provide nesting sites for birds. These separated places could be of interest to several species: sparrows, starlings or swifts.

The entrance holes were made according to the recommendations for the swift (but are also suitable for sparrows and starlings), in an oval shape with the following dimensions 6 cm wide and 3 cm high.

A miniature camera allows the birds to be filmed. It is connected in POE, so that only a single cable is needed that goes through the interior of the attic.

The nest is naturally lit by the light coming through the access hole. In case of lack of light: cloudy and night weather; the video will be in black and white due to the activation of the infrared vision.

For more technical information on this aviary and others, see the ‘Behind the Scenes‘ page.

Live video is available 24/7 during the breeding season, approximately February through July. From the construction of the nest to the flight of the chicks, you can follow the adventure here. Browse through the photo/video gallery to see the story of this year and the previous ones.
